I just wanted to introduce myself to those who do not know me, and/or my situation and reason for this Cause, and my Autobiography entitled “Progression – An Unlikely Yet Very Real Chain Of Events”.
My name is Scott Long from Maryville, TN (outside Knoxville). At the age of 33, I was diagnosed with acute Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(OCD) and Manic Depression. The symptoms had progressed since early childhood, damaging my self esteem, relationships, careers and the lives of anyone close to me. In 1997, my son Arron died, releasing the years of frustrations, imploding me down a path, congested with hallucinations, voices, noises, and ghostly shadows. The new diagnosis; Schizophrenia. My struggles continue today; there is no known cure. I wrote this book as a warning to others that early detection and diagnosis may hinder the chain events that crippled the first 33 years of my life. My OCD, however, did enable me to be creative on levels beyond my years, as a child. Now at 40, I can recall how writing songs at an early age, became an outlet for relief of severe frustration and fatigue from the progressing learning disabilities. I now see writing as an outlet to express the very thoughts that have restricted my advancement in life. This book and this Cause, are the start of what I hope to be, a step towards promoting mental illness awareness, early diagnosis, and responsible medication therapy.
Please visit the Progression Book website, and register as a supporter of the cause. It only takes a few short minutes, and I would greatly appreciate the effort.
